IOAN BUNACIU

7 January 1925 – 31 October 2015

In the early morning hours of October 31st, 2015, Dr. Ioan Bunaciu went to be with the Lord in his sleep. This happened after several months of illness following the loss of his beloved wife, Otilia, on January 14, 2015.

Dr. Ioan Bunaciu (born January 7, 1925) began his ministry in 1950 as pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Lugoj, a town with a large Baptist community in the mid-western part of Romania; after a year, he is invited to be a minister of First Baptist Church in Cluj, where he was also taking a degree in Theology at the Protestant Institute. In 1955, dr. Bunaciu and his wife, Otilia moved to Bucharest, the capital of Romania to be part of the ministry of the Baptist Theological Seminary. Two years later, he becomes the pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Bucharest, where he will serve for 58 years, until his departure.
Dr. Ioan Bunaciu was Director of Baptist Theological Seminary for 18 years (1970-1988), and Professor of Theology in several academic institutions: Bucharest Baptist Theological Seminary, University of Bucharest and TCMI. In 1992, he was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa by Milligan College in Tennessee.
He was the author and co-author of numerous volumes on the Baptist history and theology in Romania, as well as biblical commentaries; he also wrote over 50 articles in various journals and magazines.
Pastor dr. Ioan Bunaciu has impacted greatly the Baptist ministry in Romania in his over 60 years of productive and enriching service. The Romanian Baptist family looses a great man of God who has played a key role in the development of the Baptist work in this part of the world.
