The President of the Baptist World Alliance visits the President of Romania together with a delegation of the Romanian Baptist Union
John Upton, President of the Baptist World Alliance together with Otniel Bunaciu, President of the Romanian Baptist Union and Ionel Tuțac, General Secretary met with Traian Băsescu, President of Romania at Cotroceni Palace, in an official visit.
With this occasion John Upton expressed the appreciation of the Baptist World Alliance for the religious freedom that exists in Romania and for the opportunities that Romanian Baptists have to contribute to the social life of Romania (especially in humanitarian projects and education). The President of the Baptist World Alliance thanked Romanian Baptists for the help offered in aid of the Haiti earthquake.
President Traian Băsescu expressed appreciation for the social contribution of the Baptists and underlined the importance of a fair participation of all the churches and religious bodies in Romania to the common good in accordance to the principles guaranteed by the the Law for Religious Freedom and the General Regime of Religious Cults in Romania.
John Upton emphasized the fact that Romania represents a good model regarding the relationship between State and Church and conveyed the greetings of all the Baptists in the world on the occasion of the Congress of the Romanian Baptist Union which will be held in Timisoara on 19, 20 May 2011.
